    21–23 September 2018. «Turbas», Latvia By Guntis Bukalders, BAUC Executive Secretary Almost 60 department leaders with their teams from Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian conferences and church administrators came together for a departmental weekend in «Turbas», Latvia, to meet each other, share their joys and challenges, listen to and pray for each other. We had several guest speakers invited from the Trans–European Division — Karen Holford, Zlatko Musija and Peter Bo Bohsen.   • Children’s Orchestra Camp

    Adventist children and youth orchestra camp that was launched in Estonia as a result of the efforts by both Hans Soosaar and the music teacher Raeli Florea (who is also the conductor of the orchestra) celebrated already its fifth anniversary this year. Unlike during previous years, the camp did not take place in Estonia, but in Valka, Latvia, and had more international participants. There were 34 instrumentalists aged 9-24 and in addition to the familiar Latvian children, this year’s camp welcomed young musicians from Lithuania as well. BAUC team invited Adventist church leaders from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia to come together for ‘Matrix on Evangelism’ to discuss the current situation of Adventist church in the Baltic countries. The purpose of such a meeting was to initiate an open discussion on challenges that we face and to start looking for the common strategic ideas that would be relevant and common for all three countries. First part of the one-day meeting was devoted to understanding the recent membership trends in the local conferences and exploring possible reasons for the decline in baptisms and worship service attendance.   • Pathfinder training in Baltics

    On September 22-25 of 2016, BAUC youth department has organised Pathfinder leadership training in Daunoriai village, Lithuania. This much needed training was conducted by the team of Pathfinder leaders from USA.   • BAUC Constituency Meeting

    May 1–3, Rīga, Latvia. On May 1 Baltic Union Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church had its quinquennial constituency meeting. Delegates from all three Baltic countries came to review what’s been done and accept the new strategic plan and elect new union leadership for the next five years. Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian conference boards chose 66 delegates to the constituency meeting. 4 delegates represented Trans-European Division (TED) and the General Conference (GC), including Trans-European Division president Bertil Wiklander and secretary Audrey E. Andersson, 15 delegates represented Baltic Union, 12 delegates — Estonian Conference, 28 delegates — Latvian Conference and 7 delegates Lithuanian Conference. 64 delegates registered for the constituency session.…

  • Focus on Revival and Reformation in the Baltic Union

    Riga, Latvia [Guntis Bukalders, tedNEWS] Dr. Pardon Mwansa, the Vice-President of General Conference (GC) of the Seventh-day Adventist Church visited the Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) on the 21st and 26th January 2011. The purpose of his visitation was to explain the new General Conference initiative in revival and reformation.     Riga, Latvia —More than 40 attentive young people from Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia attended the first Relay course held in the Baltics, 5-17 April. During the first week, the module ‘Foundations of Adventist Beliefs’ taught by Dr Gunnar Pedersen, Newbold College lecturer, and Paul Clee, Field Secretary of the Trans-European Division, created a good foundation and generated a deep interest of the subject. Pastor Clee commented, “I found working with the young people of the Baltic States a real joy. They were responsive and willing to try anything”.   • New Church Dedicated In Latvia…

    Smiltene, Latvia – On Sabbath, 13th September, a new church building was dedicated in Smiltene, a city close to the eastern border with Belorussia where the history of Adventism is partly tragic, but ultimately reassuring. The dedication service was conducted with participation of about 100 church members, leaders of the Conference, Union and Division, pastors Viesturs Rekis, Valdis Zilgalvis and Bertil Wiklander. Special guests were leaders of other Christian churches in the town of Smiltene. The new church building was financed by the local church, the Latvian Conference and a substantial grant from the Trans-European Division.
