How do Latvians usually perceive November? Is it red–white–red, filled with patriotic feelings surrounding Independence Day, or rather grey, heavy with rain clouds and cold winds? November can feel quiet, even somber. Sad or joyful – that is often judged from the outside.
From the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) perspective, however, November carries a deeper meaning. It is a special time dedicated to prayer and to seeking a closer relationship with the mighty God. All around the world, Adventist churches unite annually in the Days of Prayer, lifting their hearts together to heaven.
Prayer is not something new to believers. It is part of daily life – personal prayer, family prayer, and prayer within the church community. What makes these Days of Prayer unique is the unity: believers across countries and cultures pray at the same time, for the same calling, bringing their requests before the same heavenly Father.
This year, the Days of Prayer took place from November 1 to November 8, under the theme of answering God’s call to go and proclaim Christ’s second coming. The prayer week concluded with a special gathering at the Riga 1st Church, where the final day unfolded as a seminar filled with worship, reflection, and fellowship.
