    CREATION Health training

God has blessed Seventh-day Adventists with a health message that has resulted in better health and longer lives according to Blue Zones research and Adventist Health Studies. CREATION Health is the essence of the Adventist health message, put into a contemporary language and supported by the evidence-based Science. From 12th to 14th April, church members of the Baltic Union Conference, who were and are interested in the health ministry, came together to learn about CREATION Health, share their experiences when conducting CREATION Health seminars, and to meet the CREATION Health people from the USA: Robyn Edgerton, who is the Directr of Mission Strategy for AdventHealth, and Lynell LaMountain, who is…

Mental Health Course in the BAUC

On 27th January 2019, the last module of a three-part mental health course Binding up the broken-hearted was conducted in the Baltic Union. The course was meant primarily for the departmental leaders and their teams, whose work in church includes a lot of communication with church members, as well as people from local communities. We live in a sinful world among broken people, and church is not exception in that sense. What can we do to help those around us, what can we do to help ourselves? We can learn to listen, to understand, and to be compassionate. Paul says, “Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love ……

2nd European Health Conference in Bucharest, Part II

2nd European Health Conference in Bucharest, Part II   The third day of the conference Vitriato Ferreira, MBChB Key factors in achieving and maintaining normal weight According to OECD there are more and more people overweight and obese. And more and more young people become overweight and obese. The results are heart disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer, etc. Children exercise less and eat more. Body Mass Index is not the best measure to decide about overweight or obesity. It becomes inaccurate if a person is very tall and slim. The best marker is your waist circumference. It shows whether you are at higher risk for type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure,…

  • A course Binding up the brokenhearted

    Binding Up The Brokenhearted

The Lord builds up Jerusalem; He gathers together the outcasts of Israel. He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:2.3 Christ is a Healer. He was a Healer for Israelites, who in exile were afflicted with grief and troubles, longing for their homeland, crushed with sorrow and shame, and He is a great Healer today, renewing our spirit and giving us hope. He invites His followers to participate in this healing work helping those around them. Pastors and lay leaders in church have answered Christ’s calling. They work for people and with people, allowing God to use them to bless others. Although God will use people, who…

  • CREATION Health

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) — mainly cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes — are the world’s biggest killers (http://apps.who.int/). They kill more people than accidents, hunger or infectious diseases. Furthermore, to provide the treatment for all these diseases is a huge burden to the world’s economy. Yet, with an appropriate lifestyle change ¾ of heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes, and 40% of cancer would be prevented. Seems easy. Well it is not. The biggest risk factors, namely: tobacco use, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity and harmful use of alcohol seem to be difficult to change. As people, we are often ‘slaves…

  • First Health Ministry Team Meeting of TED

Jesus’ disciple John wrote down His words, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). These words raise some important questions: Is my life abundant? What does it mean to have life more abundantly? If Jesus would like to give me more abundant life, how can I accept it? Can I help others to accept it too? On 8–9 May Health Ministry leaders of the TED unions came together to talk about what it means to have an abundant life through Jesus. As Adventists, we have the privilege to carry a special health message, given us by God through His…

  • Health Evangelism Training Camp in the BAUC

Health Evangelism Training Camp What is an Adventist Health Message? Is it only for Adventists or can it benefit others as well? How to have a balanced and Christ-centered approach in Health Ministry? Why does this message that should unite us, sometimes cause conflicts? What is a Health EXPO and how to organise one? What can I do to answer Jesus’ call: “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give” (Matthew 10:8)? And where can I learn about it? Have you ever asked these questions? I think, many Adventists have, and therefore, we were looking for the opportunities…

  • Impact Day in BAUC

Being on this Earth, Jesus spent more time on healing than preaching. His compassionate heart felt the need of people to be whole; to be well spiritually, physically, socially and emotionally. He did not just touch the body of a sick person, He touched their soul and mind. The word Jesus used for ‘save’ also means ‘heal’. Being the disciples of Him, I think, this is the work He calls us to do – to help those around us to have the life to the full (John 10:10). According to World Health Organisation (WHO) 50% of illnesses are caused by people’s lifestyle; or in other words – people could be…
