    Coaching for Spiritual Growth

We live in the information age – all the answers to our questions seems to be just one click away, and it can happen that if parents do not know the answer to a child’s question then Google does. In such a time of history, the art of asking good questions becomes more important than ever before. When people are “bombarded” with a constant flow of information, they tend to grasp just some points of something, and “digging deeper” becomes increasingly difficult. Good questions, rightly asked seem to have the ability to stop us in our everyday hustle and bustle, and make us think deeply about some important issues of…

  • Children’s Orchestra Camp

Adventist children and youth orchestra camp that was launched in Estonia as a result of the efforts by both Hans Soosaar and the music teacher Raeli Florea (who is also the conductor of the orchestra) celebrated already its fifth anniversary this year. Unlike during previous years, the camp did not take place in Estonia, but in Valka, Latvia, and had more international participants. There were 34 instrumentalists aged 9-24 and in addition to the familiar Latvian children, this year’s camp welcomed young musicians from Lithuania as well. The participants slept in the rooms of Jānis Cimze school and the rehearsals took place at Valka Cultural Center. Since the participants came…

  • Mission To The Cities Meeting in London

London, England. 6 people from the Baltic Union Conference had opportunity to spend 10 days in London and to take part in the Mission to the Cities (MTTC) evangelistic series. Each day we had to travel to different evangelistic events and see how it’s done by pastors and lay members in London. Here’s what our group members told after the event: Mindaugas Pikunas, a pastor from Lithuania: “I feel really privileged to have been invited to take part in MTTC in London. Although program was intense from morning till evening, I did not feel tired or exhausted at all. Morning sessions were useful. And afternoon field visitations where inspiring. I…

  • Adventist Lithuanian Poet’s Fifth Collection Draws Acclaim

August 26, 2008 Silver Spring, Maryland, United States A Seventh-day Adventist poet’s fifth collection of poetry is drawing acclaim among religious writers in her native country of Lithuania. Lifting subject material from nature, Scripture and personal spirituality, Zita Kazimiera Kirsnauskaite writes passionately in “On the Wings of an Angel” about themes seemingly at odds: hope and uncertainty, discouragement and perseverance. But through the poems — or, more likely, the process of writing them and struggling with the underpinning feelings — Kirsnauskaite ultimately reconciles them. It’s evident that Kirsnauskaite is largely inspired by Biblical themes, and she intersperses Scripture throughout the collection. Often, a verse will precede a poem, by way…

  • Latvia: Holocaust Survivor, Hid by Adventist Sisters, Has 53-Year Ministry

Dobele, Latvia — During the Nazi occupation of Riga, Latvia, in 1941, those Jews who had not been taken prisoner were kept in a ghetto. The eyes of the Gestapo — the Nazi’s secret police — were especially trained on those believed to be part of the underground resistance. Isaac Kleiman, then 17 years of age, was among those targeted: he was a Jew, the Nazis had killed his family and he was part of the underground, an outgrowth of his membership in Betar, a Zionist youth group. His work unit of nine Latvian Jewish men, which helped tend a vegetable garden in Riga, was about to be disbanded and…

  • Adventist Spring Festival in Paide, Estonia

Paide, ESTONIA. A small and friendly town named Paide was the place where about 600 people, mostly Adventists, came together on April 22nd and 23rd to celebrate their first Spring Festival. This number represents about one-third of the whole Adventist community in Estonia, which makes it a grand event for the Adventist Church in that area. The idea of the occasion was to encourage our church members to be more active in their spiritual life. The slogan that represented the whole event was “God STILL Saves”, meaning that we have so much to be thankful off, that we are being saved by God not only in the future, when He…
